Ethos
The Ethos of GUDY is to portray adult responsibilities, addictions, and emotions, through childlike whimsical characters. The Oodles show the erosion of childhood imagination to the rigid mind of an adult that is moulded into a cog to fit into the world around us. They can be the imaginary friends that accompany people during their worst moments. The weight of loneliness, love, loss and grief can be felt in all the works.
The loss of innocence can be felt in most of the paintings and sculptures. There needs to be a sense of yin and yang to the designs where there is still the humour and joy within the negative’s of being an adult.
GUDY encapsulates the mourning of childhood that people go through. It’s a reflection of what you’ve lost. A universal experience.
Even the most colourful can be grey.
